Memorial Service given in Belgrade for victims of operation “Storm”

November 19, 2012

On November 18, Divine Liturgy and a memorial service were held in the church of St. Mark in Belgrade for the victims of the military action, operation “Storm”, reports the official website of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The services were the Church’s answer to The Hague Tribunal’s decision to release the Croation state and Croation generals Markac and Gotovina from any responsibility for massacring over 1,000 Krajina Serbs, expelling 250 thousand others from their centuries-old homes, and looting or destroying their property in 1995. To date, no one has been tried for this large-scale crime, which stands out as one of the bloodiest and cruelest examples of ethnic cleansing in recent times.

The memorial service following Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno, Vicar of the Serbian Patriarch, and concelebrated by many priests and deacons of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Many worshippers attended the service.
