The 110th anniversary of canonization of Saint Seraphim of Sarov is taking place in the Nizhny Novgorod region, reports Interfax-Religion.
In the morning on July 29, the Cross procession with the relics of St Seraphim of Sarov began from the Holy Trinity-St Seraphim Diveyevo Convent to the town of Sarov (the faithful are to walk to the village of Tsyganovka). The procession will walk back to Diveyevo in the morning of July 31.
It is expected that at 16:00 on July 31, the meeting of the relics of the Venerable Father, as well as the small Vespers with a reading of the Akathist to the saint and the Vigil service will take place at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Convent. The Liturgy will be served in the morning on August 1 on the cathedral square of the Convent.
Later on the same day, the laying of the foundation stone of the Cathedral of Annunciation of the Mother of God will take place in the Convent, while on the Cathedral square of Arzamas the opening ceremony of the Museum of the Russian Patriarchate will be held.
A tent camp for pilgrims which can accommodate 5000 people is being organized in Diveyevo.
As noted in the Metropolia of Nizhny Novgorod: "The guests are provided with bedding, drinking water, warm food, medical aid and all necessary things for their stay. The faithful will be able to pray and confess, and to speak to a clergyman in the chapel situated on the territory of the tent camp."
A concert with participation of the choir of the Nizhny Novgorod Theological School for Women will be held for pilgrims during the days of celebration, and poets from Nizhny Novgorod will read their poems.
The tent camp started working on July 27 and will close on August 2.
