«Память Божия, или умная молитва, выше всех деланий; она есть глава и добродетелей, как любовь Божия».

Существует определенный негативный фон вокруг Православия в обществе. Православие говорит неприятные вещи: указывает на грех, рассказывает о наказании за нарушения, т. е. выступает моральным цензором. Эта роль раздражает общество. Но на самом деле Православие не ставит перед собой таких задач.

Схиархимандрит Илий (Ноздрин) рассказывает об исповедании Христа, мирной жизни на земле и блаженстве в вечности, а также о соблазнах и гонениях, которые препятствуют и в то же время любящим Бога христианам содействуют ко благу (Рим. 8:28).

21st century Russia resembles more the conservative, but ultimately limited, authoritarianism of the last Romanovs than the industrialised totalitarianism of the Soviet Union (with its goal of worldwide Marxist-Leninist revolution). Like the tsars, Russia's ruling caste today seeks to control a programme of modernisation based on the selective imitation of the West. Though the government is hostile to competitors for political power, the Soviet-era ambition of absolute control over Russians' thought and economic lives is foreign to it.
