The collection of signatures for retaining the Kiev Caves Lavra within the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church is a response by Orthodox Christians to another petition, accepted for consideration by the Kiev Council on December 9. The authors of that application accused clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate of “the anti-Ukrainian, mercantile position, at times hostile towards the Ukraine” and called upon the deputies to further the transfer of the Kiev Caves Lavra to the so-called “Kyiv Patriarchate”, unrecognized throughout the Orthodox world.

They came up to the church doors and demanded the right to celebrate divine services in turns with the community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Crying out their demands, they made an attempt to enter the church by force, the UOC press service reported.
"These are our religious principles. And in a changing world, we would like to reaffirm that this is who we are and who we intend to be,” said Carson-Newman President Dr. Randall O’Brien.

The parish was established in 2011 with parishioners celebrating the divine services in a small rented space. They tried to collect funds four years running, and in 2015 managed to buy a building of the Methodist church with space for a kindergarten, a library and a trapeza. Over a million dollars was fundraised for the purchase and reconstruction of the building. More than 10,000 people donated to the project.
