The persecution of Christians in China appeared to have "entered into a new phase" with the arrest early this week of at least nine Christians protesting the state's ongoing campaign to remove crosses in churches.

The monument is a 4-meter bronze statue mounted on a 5-meter base. Prince Vladimir of Kievan Rus who presses an Orthodox cross to his chest overlooks the Dnieper River. With his right hand, the Prince points to the river in whose waters Smolensk residents were baptized. The statue was made by member of the Russian Artists’ Union, Smolensk resident Valery Grashchenkov. His project was endorsed personally by Patriarch Kirill.
A Pakistani man and his wife who converted to Christianity were severely persecuted and shot by family members.

At present, the monastery raises 60-70 tonnes of trout per year but is now planning to increase that figure to 200 tonnes, according to the monk Yefrem (Mukhin), who is in charge of the monastery's economic affairs.
