Archaeologists excavating the so called Bishop’s Basilica of the Ancient Roman and Early Byzantine city of Parthicopolis located in the town of Sandanski in Southwest Bulgaria have discovered the last fragment from a marble slab with a christogram, a Christian symbol consisting of a monogram of letters standing for the name of Jesus Christ.

Schemamonk John (Dezorzi) who was a member of the brotherhood of the Holy Cross Hermitage in Wayne, WV from 1998 until 2006 returned to the Hermitage on July 28. After his time in the hermitage Fr. John was a member of several other monasteries, but upon being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer he decided he wanted to spend his last days again at Holy Cross, with the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion.
The great Soviet film, Alexander Nevsky, by the Soviet directors Sergei Eisenstein and Dmitry Vasiliev, recently restored by the Mosfilm cinema company, will be shown as part of the “Venetian Classics” retrospective competition program of the International Venice Film Festival.
