St. Isaac the Syrian, commemorated on January 28/February10, is one of the most beloved saints especially among monastics in the Orthodox Church. The sayings and teachings found in his Ascetical Homilies show him to have been a man full of the Spirit, divinely illumined by the grace of God in the Church, which he attracted to himself through watchful repentance. His words have served as a continuing, patient inspiration for generations of monks and nuns, and laypeople, down to our very day.

The newly-canonized saint, Archbishop Seraphim (Sobolev) of Boguchar (Bulgaria), has been known by the faithful since his lifetime as a defender of the Orthodox faith in the face of various new trends decisions that faced the Orthodox Church worldwide during the very complicated twentieth century.

People preoccupied with worldly matters would naturally assume that anyone who gave away his wealth must be insane. They were incapable of seeing that Xenia had undergone a complete rebirth; she was changed from a worldly woman into a spiritual being.
