Entire Families were benefited by Father Valentin. There were times when he helped people to get their jobs back after they had been fired and their families left without an income. He helped widows to find jobs. In another case, a husband’s death left a wife and three young children without any means of living. Father Valentin found wealthy people who were willing to help and financially support the struggling family.

On September 2, 2012, the St. Herman of Alaska Monastery in Platina, California hosted a celebration of the thirty year anniversary of the repose of Hieromonk Seraphim (Rose). Father Seraphim is known throughout the Orthodox world for his writings. Those attending the Divine Liturgy and the festive meal afterwards included Americans who knew Father Seraphim personally.

Books by Father Seraphim (Rose) played a very important role during the period of my life when I was coming into the Church. When I read during the early 1980s in samizdat Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future and Signs of the End Times, I was stunned by his ability to connect and place into Christian context the scattered and multi-faceted phenomena of modern times. He taught me that that the history of mankind, indeed the very life of every person is filled with meaning.
