Dear in the Lord parishioners of Sretensky Monastery
and readers of Pravoslavie.ru/OrthoChristian.com!
During these days, the Earth is adorned with the festive greeting, “Happy Holidays!” Greetings with the Nativity of Christ are becoming ever rarer.
But we, as the whole universe did on that distant night over two thousand years ago, celebrate the birth of the God-Man—our Lord Jesus Christ. “The Divinity Himself was contained in human flesh, so that its nature might yearn for all that is holy,” writes St. Ephraim the Syrian. Let us join those faithful who yearned and joyfully waited for the Lord to come from the heavens. Let us remember how the Virgin Mary rejoiced, how St. John the Forerunner leapt in the womb of Elizabeth, how the angels sang, how the magi brought gifts to worship the Infant. Let us cleanse the eyes of our hearts and we shall behold the light of the Kingdom of Heaven. Through human flesh, Christ illumines everyone who comes to Him with the divine power of this other-worldly light.
