Cairo, April 15, 2013
Those arrested were present at the Cathedral among hundreds of people gathered for the funeral of four Copts who had been killed in violence in Cairo's suburb of Khosous. But when those gathered were about to leave, stones and "Molotov cocktails" were thrown at them thus forcing them to hide in the territory of the cathedral. As the attackers were throwing stones and "Molotov cocktails" from roofs of neighboring buildings and the Cathedral's enclosure, some young Copts, armed with rods and stones, decided to drive them off. As a result, two Copts were killed and 84 injured.
When the police finally arrived, they only dispersed tear gas at the Cathedral's foundation and nothing else, although the attack lasted at least five hours.
