A hundred prisoners to be released in Georgia for Pascha

In Georgia, about a hundred prisoners will be released for Pascha, reports "Trend" new agency, which cites the head of the commission for clemency, Elena Tevtoradze.

According to Tevtoradze, the commission has reviewed over 330 candidates for clemency, and has approved roughly a third of them. In addition, some prisoners' sentences will be decreased by half, the commission decided.

According to the Georgian TV channel "Rustavi-2", most of those to be freed had been sentenced for crimes connected with drug trafficking.

Tevtoradze says that among the lucky ones are fourteen women and one juvenile. The commission's decision is to be confirmed by the Georgian president, Mikhail Sakashvili.

RIA Novosti reports that at the end of 2010, there were around 23,800 convicts in Georgian prisons.
