The arctic ecological expedition, “Clean
Shore,” is set to take place from July 23 to August
20, 2011 in the Archangelsk region. Bishop Daniel of
Archangelsk and Kholmogor has blessed the scientific
enlightenment team of the expedition, whose slogan will be
“God and the St. Andrew flag is with us,”
reports the press service of the Archangelsk
diocese.
Four sailing yachts of the non-profit partnership,
“Yacht Club North” will sail along the shores
of Archangelsk region in the White and Barents Seas. With
the blessing of Bishop Daniel, the expedition intends to
plant a cross on the island of Sosnovetz. Church services
will be held at stopping points, and in the Nenets
villages of Bugrino and Barandei, services for the reposed
will be held.
The scientific aim of the expedition includes monitoring the ecosystem of the Arctic shores. Otherwise, there will be races, excursions, and “open-boat” for locals at stopping points.
A report will be made at the end of the expedition, which will be presented at the Second International Forum, “The Arctic—a Territory of Dialogue.”
