Havanan, Cuba September 3, 2012
On
Sunday, September 2 after the Divine Liturgy at the
Kazan Cathedral of Havana city there was moleben
served for the beginning of the new academic year.
The day before, on September 1, during the celebration of
the “Knowledge Day” in the secondary school at
the Russian Embassy in Havana the Rector of the Kazan
Cathedral Dmitry Orekhov addressed students, teachers, and
parents with pastoral advice.
During his speech Fr. Dmitry talked about the importance
of having a heart clean and open to the acquiring of the
knowledge of the world and the necessity of cooperation
between parents, leaders, teachers and students in this
process. “Learning is a path that we should follow
together. One should never stop on the way of searching
for the Truth.”
"The
spiritual components of the these days’
cultural program were no different from the usual
ones in our home countries, where even in the Soviet
era grandmothers drove children to churches before
school for Communion. Nowadays it is not uncommon to
come across an Orthodox priest in a school. However,
for Cuba our traditions are wondrous and
exotic,” comments the parish website.
“But the bay outside the temple, and palm trees
around an open school auditorium is a reality for
Cuba and exotic for us."
