Bulgarian president asks for celebration services in churches for peace and well-being of people

Sofia, April 7, 2013

The president of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev asked representatives of major confessions, represented in the country, to celebrate special services in their houses of worship on this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday: for peace, good health and well-being of the Bulgarian people during times of crisis, reports Sedmitza.ru with a reference to the Bulgarian agency, Focus.

The reason for the president’s request is the deep despair that has seized Bulgarian people, which has led to increase of numbers of suicides.

Bishop John of Znepol, Vicar of Patriarch Neophyte of Bulgaria (the Bulgarian Orthodox Church), Birali Ali, the chief Mufti's deputy, Bishop Christo Proikov, chairman of the Conference of Bishops (Roman Catholic Church), Rupen Ohanes Krikorian, chairman of the Diocesan Council (Armenian Apostolic Church), Robert Shalom Jerassi, chairman of the Central Jewish Council, and Pastor Evgeni Dimitrov Naidenov, deputy-chairman of United Evangelical Churches were present at the meeting with the president which took place on April 4, 2013.

"In this difficult situation for Bulgaria, it is necessary for everybody—public institutions, citizens, and spiritual leaders—to unite and to find together the right solution for the country and for the people," said the president of Bulgaria, R. Plevneliev at the meeting.
