Haifa University becomes the first Israeli Institute of Higher Education to declare Christmas a holiday

The University of Haifa has become the first Israeli University to declare the Nativity of Christ to be a holiday and a day off for its teachers and students, reports the CWN agency with reference to the Israeli media.

The senate of the University's faculties that runs the University has also voted that two other days should become university holidays: the Muslim Kurban Bairam and the Drusian Id Al-Adha.

Haifa University was founded in 1963. The University campus was founded in 1965, designed by the famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. There are seven departments in the University: humanities, social science, law, natural science, education, social welfare and public health. Around 17,000 students and postgraduates study attend.
