Bishop Ioannis of Thermopilai talked with those gathered about Holy Apostle Paul. The Hierarch particularly stressed that the Apostle’s courage and resolve helped him lay the foundations of the universal Church.
After the prayer service, his Beatitude Archbishop Ieronimos awarded the president of the general assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy Sergei Popov with the highest award of the Church of Greece: the Cross of St. Deonysius the Areopagite.
The Pnyx hill, or the hill of Areopagus, is a bare marble hill in front of the entrance to the Acropolis in the center of Athens. Here Paul the Apostle delivered his famous speech on the "unknown God", mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles. At the foot of the hill, there is a bronze slab with the text (in Greek) of St Paul's sermon, reports Sobor.by with the reference to the Romphea agency.
