Athens, July 31, 2013
The new joint state-Church structure has been named "The association of Church property assessment". The new corporative association will belong 50% to the Greek government and another 50% to the Church of Greece.
The project of the association was developed over several years on the initiative of Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece.
All the immovable property of the Church of Greece will be transferred for 99 years to the new structure. It can be let on lease for various terms but cannot be alienated from the Church and sold. The Church property rent revenues will be shared to the same extent between the Church and the state.
At the same time, it is stipulated that the part of revenues transferred to the state will be used for intensifying the help to the most vulnerable members of the society. In its turn, the Church, taking its share of revenues into account, will develop its charitable institutions and initiatives, according to the communiqué on the occasion of creating of the new Church-state structure.
