Arkhangelsk, March 23, 2014
The Solovki State Historical, Architectural and Natural Museum-Reserve, the Transfiguration Stavropegic Solovki Monastery, and the Russian Literature Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (The Pushkin House) are the conference's organizers, reports the Solovki Monastery's website.
The academic forum will gather over 40 researchers from leading academic institutes, cultural and educational institutions of Russia: the History Institute of RAS, the World Literature Institute of RAS, the Russian State Library, the Moscow and St. Petersburg State Universities, the Moscow Kremlin museums, the State Historic museum and many other are among them. Scholars from Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Tver, Irkutsk, Tyumen, Syktyvkar, Cheboksary will also come to Solovki.
Participation in the conference of the Russian Literature Institute of RAS and the Northern (Arctic) Federal University will become the most meaningful. The delegation of the Pushkin House staff members will be headed by its director, a corresponding member of RAS E.V. Bagno.
Distinguished guests are also expected to arrive, for example: professor of the University of Geneva G. Niev (he will deliver a lecture at the conference) and the poet and former Solovki resident Yu.M. Kublanovsky. The conference participants and guests will be offered an extensive tour and cultural program.
Researchers of the unique historical, cultural and spiritual heritage of Solovki will be gathering on the northern islands for the third time. Academic conferences of 2005 and 2010 showed that such forums are truly significant. They promote popularization of the Solovki heritage, activation of its research, expanding of the circle of researchers, and consolidation of intellectual forces. The conferences give a unique opportunity to communicate for researchers of various fields and schools. Staying on Solovki, getting to know the islands’ history and nature, and contact with the spiritual world of the islands help them realize the importance of their research and enrich their experience.
