Reconstruction of the bell tower of the Russian Holy Ascension Convent in Jerusalem situated on the very summit of the Mountain of Olives (Mount Olivet) has been completed, reports the website of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem.
The repair work lasted for about a year. The spire was renovated, fragments of the walls replaced and the cross gilded. The closing stage was tinting of the bell tower.
The “Russian candle” can be seen all over Jerusalem. This is a symbol of Orthodoxy in the Holy Land.
