“One Thousand Years of Pilgrimage in Russia” Exhibition open in the Lavra of the Caves in Kiev

Kiev, October 26, 2010

On 21 October 2010, “One Thousand years of Pilgrimage in Russian” exhibition opened at the Cathedral of the Dormition in the Laura of the Caves in Kiev with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine.

The exhibition, sponsored by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the “Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra” National Historical and Cultural Preserve, is open in the framework of the international conference on pilgrimage. The viewers can see old icons and books, photos and pictures of the monasteries and holy sites, souvenirs and documents on the tradition of pilgrimage in Russia.

The Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Vladimir, opened the exhibition, thanking its organizers and noting the great importance of pilgrimage to holy places for the spiritual life of people.

Present at the opening were the Ukrainian deputy minister of culture and tourism Mr. T. Kokhan, the Ambassador of Greece to Ukraine Georgios Georgountzos, representatives of countries participating in the conference (Italy, Serbia, Poland, Romania, and Israel), and delegates and guests of the conference, press service of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reports.
