he Russian Orthodox Church has received title to a parcel of land near the city of Limassol, Cyprus. The deed was transferred on November 19 to the benefactor’s council for the construction of the Church of St. Nicholas on that parcel. The church will become the main Orthodox church for the Russian-speaking community on the island, reports the Russian news agency, ITAR-TASS.

The government of the Republic of Cypress has approved the transfer of title to this parcel to the Russian Orthodox Church, a gift of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus. It was registered in the name of the Russian Orthodox Church, Moscow Patriarchate, which received unqualified rights to the property.

Negotiations over the land and construction have been conducted for over ten years. In 2009, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia blessed a renewed project for the church complex, which will include a church, a bell tower, and a guesthouse for pilgrims. The project likewise received the support of the first hierarch of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus, Archbishop Chrysostom II.
