St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation will help fund the building of an Orthodox church in Tallinn

Tallinn, October 27, 2011

A little more than 3 million euros are needed to complete the building of an Orthodox church in Tallinn; a major part of the sum will be granted by St.Andrew the First-Called Foundation, the press service of the Estonian capital's mayoral office told Interfax.

Such a decision was made at a conference with city mayor Edgar Savisaar and the Foundation delegation, headed by its first vice-president Mikhail Yakushev.

The building of the church and bell tower is planned to be completed in 2013.

Participants in the meeting regret that Estonian Culture Ministry refused to finance the building of a Sunday school in the church complex.

A bust to late Patriarch Alexy II will be installed at the church yard as he was a Tallinn native.

The Church of the Mother of God Icon "Quick to Hear" is built in Lasnamae district where Russian-speaking people mostly live. Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia laid the church foundation in autumn 2003. Today the territory in front of the church is being equipped. It is decided that it will bear the late Patriarch's name.
