On March 27, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Commissioner
for Human Rights, Democracy and Rule of Law, Konstantin
Dolgov, attended a Council of Europe conference on
discrimination against sexual minorities, the ministry
said in a commentary posted on its web site.
"After some of the attendees criticized the laws
passed in a number of Russian cities, imposing
administrative liability for homosexual and pedophile
"propaganda" among minors, the Commissioner
stressed that these legal acts do not violate Russia's
international commitments and fully fit into Russia's laws
and efforts to duly protect the rights and interests of
Russian children," the ministry said.
The Russian diplomat also pointed to the Russian legal ban
of any discrimination, including based on sexual
orientation, and said there was no need to make separate
legal documents protecting the rights of sexual
minorities.
