Cross headstones were toppled last night in Priozersk and the cross was sawed off in Topuchaya village in Altai, in the place where it is planned to build a chapel in memory of the Siblag builders.
An unknown offender in Priozersk (Leningrad region) damaged wooden crosses on the graves of the city cemetery. At about 10 a.m. it was found that nine grave crosses were damaged in the new cemetery in Priozersk, police source reported to "Interfax". Motives are being examined. The investigation is ongoing.
In the Altai Republic cross was sawed off in the Topuchaya village of the Shebalinsky district; the cross was assembled in May, in the place where the chapel will be built in memory of the builders of the Chui tract including the Siblag prisoners.
Investigators are working on the crime scene, as the Ministy of Home Affairs spokesman told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
"An Orthodox cross was cut down in Topuchaya village as was discovered this morning. Perhaps it was cut down during the night. Police are working on the site. We cannot provide any further details at this time", - said the source of the news agency.
