The new beautiful documentary of 15 series tells about the most important events of the Christian Church year: Pascha (Easter), the twelve major feasts, and the Protection of the Mother of God; one film is devoted to St. Nicolas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia.
The films will relate the spiritual contents and theological significance of the feasts, the Biblical events which underlie them as well as customs and traditions associated with one or another festival. Amazing and often unique traditions that were formed around Church solemnities in the Orthodox East, the West and Russia will be shown.
In the film that tells about the Transfiguration of the Lord the camera will "lead" the audience to Mt. Tabor and to Solovki (the monastery of which is dedicated to the Transfiguration), to the Holy mountain Grabarka, Diveyevo, and the village of Ostrov in the Moscow region where the churches are also dedicated to the Transfiguration.
In the film about the Dormition, which will be shown on August 28, the audience will be able to see the medieval mystery play that has been performed in the Spanish town of Elche for about seven centuries, "sea" celebrations on the Greek island of Tinos and, of course, the nighttime Cross procession with the epitaphion of the Mother of God, and the “burial service” in Gethsemane.
For the film about the Nativity of the Mother of God the makers filmed spectacular festivities in Prato in Florence, Italy, costumed battles at the Kulikovo field, and Repin's Cross procession in Kursk province.
Other film series that will be shown on Kultura TV channel
about great Church feasts will include many highly
interesting shots aired by several groups at the same time
in different countries. The series are produced by the
Neofit Studio of St. Gregory the Theologian and Charitable
Foundation.
