The Orthodox Church in Sierra Leone Wednesday 25 February donated a container of rice to complement government's efforts in the fight against the waning Ebola virus disease.
The presentation which was made at State House was donated to target children affected by the deadly virus.
President Koroma thanked the Orthodox Church for their support in providing equipment and items even prior to the Ebola outbreak. He said the possible use of the rice will be adhered to and focus on people affected by the outbreak especially children orphaned by the epidemic.
He welcomed the idea of the church working with government in the post Ebola recovery plan, adding that government is putting together a robust post Ebola socio-economic recovery plan. The president urged all NGOs and partners in the implementation of the recovery plan to avoid cross purposes as "we work to maximize benefits". He also thanked the Paradise Kids and the people of Greece for their supportive contribution in the ongoing fight against Ebola.
On behalf of the Orthodox Church, Reverend Dr Themistocles Adamopoulo said they have been working very hard to ending the Ebola crisis and complementing government's efforts in that regard. He said the three containers of rice were provided by Paradise Kids from Australia and the United States of America singling out that the one container as being donated to government to target children affected by the outbreak. He informed President Koroma about his trip to New York to help garner support for an Ebola children's orphanage.
In a similar development, the Secretary General of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Party Ambassador Foday Osman Yansaneh on behalf of APC UK Branch donated Le 40,000,000 (Forty Million Leones) to help government in ending the outbreak. The president said that even as Ebola ebbs, the APC UK branch is still making frantic efforts to support the fight against the waning virus.
