Egypt's three Christian denominations approve bill on church construction, restoration
The country follows the Islamic Law of Classical Islam back from the era of the Ottoman Empire in 1856 that made it difficult for Egyptian Christians to build their own church buildings. Former Interior Minister Mohamed Ezaby Pasha also made the situation worse in 1934 by adding 10 more conditions in order to grant building permits for churches.

150th anniversary of birth of Venerable Seraphim of Vyritsa marked in St. Petersburg by city-wide Cross procession
Historically the Cross procession occurred every year on August 1/14, on the feast of the Procession of the Precious Wood of the Life-giving Cross of the Lord around “Savior on Sennaya” in memory of the deliverance of St. Petersburg from cholera. Reviving the lost tradition, this year the Cross procession was organized by the Union of Orthodox Entrepreneurs, and the parishes of Venerable Seraphim of Vyritsa in Bolshoi Gostiny Dvor and of the Dormition on Sennaya.

St. Tikhon’s Seminary Opens Parish Lay Leadership Training Program in Philadelphia, PA
The Parish Lay Leadership Training Program is comprised of 4 semesters (2 academic years) during which participants are enrolled in graduate level courses in Theology, Scripture, Church History and Liturgics. In addition to this, the new program will also offer courses that are specifically geared towards training students to be better assistants to the pastor in various areas of parish life, like catechetical and Sunday school instructions, liturgical services and parish management.

Medical Clinic Built in Uganda
St. Philip the Apostle parish in Tampa, Florida has helped to raise funds to build a medical clinic in northern Uganda. Located thirty miles south of the South Sudan border, a 2,500 square foot clinic was constructed, opening in January of 2014 with a staff of two. Since then five more have been added to the clinic staff, including the recent hiring of a certified midwife.

Fire destroys church at Ascension Monastery Church, Clinton, MI
