The Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church began their work today in the Hall of Church Councils in Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral. The council’s program includes centenary celebrations of the restoration of the patriarchate to the Russian Church and the enthronement of St. Tikhon as the first new patriarch, which occurred on December 4, 1917 in the Kremlin’s Dormition Cathedral.

Pat. Ilia II will not visit Russia for centenary of restored patriarchate due to health
Pat. Ilia has had several health problems lately. In January he was recovering from a flu brought on by a gall bladder inflammation, and in February he traveled to Germany for treatment when laboratory examinations revealed a fever following a bout with kidney stones. While in Germany he ended up having gallbladder surgery.
