On May 30, 2014, the feast-day of Hiero-Confessor Archpriest Jonah (Atamansky) of Odessa, Wonder-Worker (1852-1924), His Eminence Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa and Izmail celebrated a Divine Liturgy at the Dormition Cathedral of Odessa with Archbishop Eulogius of Sumy and Akhtyrka; Bishop Arkady of Ovidiopol, Vicar of the Diocese of Odessa; Bishop Diodor of Yuzhnensk, Vicar of the Diocese of Odessa; rector of the Odessa Theological Seminary Archimandrite Seraphim as well as numerous city clergy concelebrating.
At the Liturgy, with the blessing of Metropolitan Agafangel, Archbishop Eulogius ordained a priest the Odessa Theological Seminary’s third-year student Deacon George Zhurzhi.
After the Liturgy a cross procession was arranged with the reliquary containing the Relics of Holy Righteous Jonah of Odessa, during which Metropolitan Agafangel sprinkled the many faithful present with holy water.
In his archpastoral speech Metropolitan Agafangel greeted everyone on the festive occasion and related the life of St. Jonah of Odessa, reports Pravoslavnaya Odessa.
