The Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace, Bishop Panteleimon of Orekhovo-Zuyevo and concelebrated by the monastery Superior, Archimandrite Tikhon, as well as members of the monastic brotherhood clergy. Also present were invited guests, including Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Moscow Patriarchate, and Archpriest Peter Perekrestov, who serves at the “Joy of All Who Sorrow” Cathedral of the Russian Church Abroad in San Francisco.

Following the service, Archimandrite Tikhon welcomed His Grace, Bishop Panteleimon to the Monastery and offered thanks for leading the festal Divine Liturgy. Bishop Panteleimon then joined the monastery brothers and seminarians for a festal meal in the refectory, at which he addressed those present with an archpastoral word.

I am grateful to the Lord, to the Mother of God and to Batiushka Tikhon that they gave me such joy and happiness—the chance to study. Knowledge is a firm foundation to use in building the salvation of one’s soul. Of course, such spiritual building is based on firm faith and fulfillment of the Gospel commandments. For us, the path of ascension to God is traveled under the guidance of the holy fathers. They teach us how to correctly fulfill the Gospel commandments.

Working from both sacred and secular texts, Moscow Sretensky Monastery Choir filled the Library of Congress’s Coolidge Auditorium on Wednesday night with a vocal luster that extended as far as the expression of reverence and human passion can reach. And the auditorium was filled to the rafters with listeners, the audience including many religious dignitaries in colorful ritual dress.
