A Christmas service was celebrated at the field church of the Khmeimim airbase of the Russian Federation’s Aerospace Forces in Latakia, Syria, reports RIA-Novosti.
The “field” church was installed on the Khmeimim airbase the day before the Nativity of Christ and will remain there, together with Fr. Ilia – a chaplain who arrived from Russia.
The servicemen who were off-duty (of combat alert) were present at the festive service, the message reads.
“A Christmas service is always very special. This is a long-awaited service for every chaplain. And here we give spiritual guidance to those who serve far from their motherland,” said Priest Ilia to the journalists.
“This service brings love, peace, and hope that with the coming of Christ the Savior peace will reign in the Syrian land again,” he added.
