Only a few weeks ago, the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of Mexico, Venezuela, Central America, and the Caribbean was filled with the joy of a “Golden Jubilee,” celebrating the 50th Anniversary of their Metropolitan Antonio Chedraoui’s Consecration to the Episcopacy. Many of the Metropolitan’s brother bishops traveled to Mexico to enjoy the festivities with him.

After almost a week of fellowship with his brothers, the Jubilee concluded with Metropolitan Antonio serving a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on Sunday, January 17th (his birthday and the feast day of his heavenly patron, Anthony the Great). The Liturgy was celebrated at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Mexico City. In the homily, Sayedna Antonio described how difficult yet rewarding his ministry has been. He also decorated many of his Archdiocese’s benefactors with the “Cross of San Pedro and San Pablo.”

Following the service was a grand banquet attended by over 2500 guests, including the Governor of the State and a representative of Mexico’s President. His Grace Bishop Ephrem read a letter from His Beatitude Patriarch John X to Metropolitan Antonio and presented him with an icon of his patron Saint Anthony the Great. Metropolitan Antonio then himself took the stand He thanked God for His blessings and thanked his brother hierarchs for their presence.

Photos of the Jubilee can be found here and here.

May God grant Metropolitan Antonio many years.
