Unknown persons have thrown Molotov cocktails at a church of the Moscow patriarchate in Pavlograd, in central Ukraine’s Dnepropetrovsk region, the press service of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church said on Nov. 7.

"The unknown persons set on fire the St. Cyril and Methodius church in Pavlograd of the Dnepropetrovsk eparchy. The attackers hurled three Molotov cocktails at the church premises - two at the church and another one at the altar," the statement said.

The fire destroyed a choir place with prayer books and also damaged the central part of the church, which sustained significant damage. The law enforcers have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.

The buildings of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the self-governing church of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine, have been subjected to arson attacks several times. In February, unknown persons set on fire a church in the Lvov region, in western Ukraine. The building’s central part was significantly damaged. Another arson attack in May damaged the Church of Transfiguration in Kiev.

The cross procession participants were greatly astonished that the locals who had taken part in the provocation received monetary reward from “the Right Sector” for their “action”. The Orthodox pilgrims were even more amazed when after it was all over, some of the provocateurs joined them for dinner at the same table!

Forgetting Christ’s commandments, embracing ethnophyletism, giving preference to a Caesar, serving Mammon—all of these are symptoms of a serious disease that has affected schismatics of the so-called “Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate” as a result of their falling away from Orthodoxy.

The culprits penetrated the church through a window, entered the chancel, scattered about the sanctuary items from the altar and oblation table, spilled the reserved Holy Gifts from the tabernacle, stole the church donations and other objects.

We simply cannot leave our church to its fate or hand it over to someone else. Now some people have lost the fear of God and do not want our communal prayer to continue in the church. And we will do our best to defend our holy places.
