Vatican City, April 10, 2014
According to the religious periodical, To Believe, the hawk will protect the pigeons that Pope Francis I releases up to the sky after his Sunday sermons (this has already become customary).
The hawk has undergone a training course in a farm in the north of Italy. The personal Papal guard has been charged by the Vatican to take care of the bird, reports ITAR-TASS.
All these measures have been taken to prevent a repetition of incidents in which the doves released by the Pope were attacked by seagulls, which have been throwing their weight around on St. Peter's Square for a long time.
On January 26, in the presence of a crowd of many thousands of people, the white pigeons released by children with Pope Francis were attacked by seagulls and crows.
