This year the Slavic world celebrated the memory of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Great Prince Vladimir, enlightener of the Russian Land with especial piety and festivity. Liturgically commemorated on July 15/28, a day known as the Baptism of Rus', St. Vladimir reposed one thousand years ago in the year 1015. Throughout Russia and Ukraine the Orthodox faithful prayerfully remembered their father at festive Divine Liturgies, cross processions, and art festivals held in his honor.
In the evening of July 28, a formal concert program, attended by numerous clergy including hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and Canada as well as political dignitaries, was held in Kiev at the St. Michael's Square, honoring the spiritual and poltical legacy of Great Prince Vladimir. With an introduction by Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko, the concert features uplifting ecclesial and traditional folk songs of the Slavic people, sure to prove inspiring for all Orthodox faithful.
