Julian Assange references the “All-Seeing Eye of God” in his interview

Moscow, July 1, 2015

“In his sensational interview with Vesti Nedeli (the “News of the Week” Russian TV program) editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks Julian Assange used one interesting metaphor,” wrote Archpriest Vladimir Vigilyansky, Rector of the St. Tatiana’s Church at the Lomonosov Moscow State University and prominent writer, on his Facebook page. “He (Assange) sees the USA as an entity who pretentiously claims to be the All-Seeing Eye of God: Behold, the Eyes of the Lord are on them that fear Him (Psalm 32:18).”

“The USA is an espionage superpower… It has a global system for intercepting communications. The US is spying on everybody, including its own allies, and it uses this information for its political, geopolitical, economic purposes. This so much reminds me of the classical image of God, Who sees you always and everywhere; wherever you are and whatever you are doing, He knows all about you.”

“I recall the Book of Isaiah which describes the king of Babylon as an impostor whom the prophet compares with the fallen angel, “son of the morning star” (Lucifer, the devil, satan):

You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit. Those who see you will stare at you and ponder over you: “Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms, who made the world like a desert and overthrew its cities, who did not let his prisoners go home?” (Isaiah 14, 13-17).

“Interestingly, while searching for the citation from Julian Assange, I viewed around 100 reports of journalists, but none of them paid attention to this place in his interview. The full text and video were published only by Vesti.ru,” Fr. Vladimir Vigilyansky writes.

Raymond Ibrahim, an American journalist and expert on the Middle East and Islam, reflecting on the reasons for this ignorance, has come to the conclusion that one of the main reasons is inaccurate media coverage of information on cases of violence and discrimination against Christians in the Muslim world.
