ISIS militants burn down four Christian churches in northeast Syria

Damascus, February 26, 2015

Kidnapping residents from Christian villages in northeast Syria, the militants from “the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” (ISIS) have burned to ashes no fewer than four Christian churches, reports Sedmitza.ru with the reference to the Assyrian International News Agency (Aina.org).

Many churches were completely destroyed, for example, the church in Tel Hurmiz, one of the oldest churches of Syria, the Church of Mar Bisho in Tel Shamiran, the church in Qabr Shamiy and the church in Tel Baloua, the agency reported.

The ISIS gunmen have also destroyed the public library in Mosul (Iraq) whose collection consisted of thousands of books.

The Mosul library was ransacked and ruined in 2003 following the American invasion of Iraq. But the library collection was later restored, chiefly by the efforts of local wealthy families.

The public library of Mosul has been destroyed by the islamists by means of explosives.
