He explained that requests to register the SPC in Montenegro and “persecution of its priests” were an attempt to humiliate the SPC.
Metropolitan Amfilohije said that people from the Social Democratic Party were leading the “persecution of the SPC in Montenegro”, adding that he would complain to the EU and the international community about Montenegro’s actions.
“In that sense Europe is much more mature and can serve as an example to us,” he told daily Press.
The metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral repeated that “dozens of priests have been expelled” from Montenegro. According to him, the law on foreign citizens does not apply in these cases.
“You can have your own beliefs but you have to respect the law,” Metropolitan Amfilohije noted.
When asked whether the SPC still paid attention to ethnicity, he said it was no longer important who was a Serb or a Montenegrin, claiming that this had been an issue in the 90s.
