English Service to St. Paisios the Athonite Celebrated at the Hermitage

On the evening of Monday, July 13th, the brethren of the Hermitage of the Holy Cross celebrated the All-Night Vigil in honor of the newly-glorified St. Paisios the Athonite – perhaps the first time anywhere in the world that the service was sung in English. The next morning, on Tuesday the 14th, the Divine Liturgy was served in honor of this great saint of the latter times.

The feast of St. Paisios actually falls two days earlier on July 12th, the day of his repose, but since this is (according to the old calendar) the feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, the decision was made to transfer St. Paisios’ feast day in order to celebrate it fittingly.

Among the clergy serving for the feast were Hierodeacon Paisios (tonsured into monasticism with the name of St. Paisios only days after the latter’s glorification) and the newly ordained Deacon Andrew Temple.

The Hermitage brotherhood would like to deeply thank John Sanidopoulos for his labors in translating the service into English.
