Patriarch Daniel of Romania, Patriarch Neofit of Bulgaria, Patriarch Irinej of Serbia

On the night of October 30, 2015, a fire broke out during a heavy metal concernt in a Bucharest night club which claimed the lives of approximately 30 young people and injured nearly 200 more. Patriarch Daniel of Romania, as well as Patriarchs Neofit of Bulgaria and Irinej of Serbia offer their words of prayer and condolences:

With much sorrow we have learned of the tragic fire at Colectiv Club in Bucharest on the night of October 30, 2015, in which 27 people lost their lives, over 160 people were injured, of whom 146 have been hospitalized in 12 hospitals of Bucharest.

In these times of grief for the families, relatives, friends and acquaintances of the deceased or of those injured in hospitals we address a paternal word of compassion and spiritual consolation.

We support those who are suffering on their hospital beds and pray to God to relieve their pain and heal them.

We also pray to our Savior the crucified and risen Lord Jesus Christ to give rest in His peace and love to the souls of those deceased in the fire, and to spiritually strengthen those mourning the departed.

The parishes in Bucharest to which the deceased youth or those affected by burns belong are urged to spiritually and financially support the bereaved families and the families of those in hospitals. We renew our call for blood donations in order to save the lives of those in hospital.

Let us combine our prayer with merciful deeds for all those who suffer!

TO HIS BEATITUDE DANIEL

PATRIARCH OF ROMANIA

YOUR BEATITUDE,

BELOVED IN CHRIST BROTHER AND CONCELEBRANT!

In this painful moment when we are deeply grieved to learn of the fire tragedy at a night club in Bucharest, one which brought to an early end the life of tens of young people and made the brotherly Romanian people lost in deep sorrow, we on our own behalves and on behalf of the clergymen and laity of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church offer most sincere condolences to you and to the relatives of those who perished and to all other victims in this tragic incident.

There is great truth in the words: Whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it (1 Cor. 12:26), and therefore we cannot but feel sympathy for the grief of our beloved sister, the Romanian Orthodox Church, which she is experiencing now over the unexpected departure from this life of some of her children. We are adding our own prayers to yours, praying to our merciful God that He would forgive all the willing and unwilling trespasses of the perished and accept them in the abode of the just where there is neither pain, nor sorrow, nor sighing but life eternal.

We pray that God, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation (2 Cor. 1:3-4), would comfort all who are sorrowful and grant a speedy recovery to those who were injured.

NEOFIT, Patriarch of Bulgaria
