Moscow, April 3, 2017
Volunteers of the “Rus’” Food Foundation together with the pupils of children’s homes are painting and gathering eggs from April 1 to 14 for the gigantic Paschal “Basket of Kindness,” to be presented on Holy Saturday in Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral for His Holiness Patriarch Kirill to bless and distribute. The foundation is planning to give out more than 10,000 eggs, according to its site.
Orphanages and other children’s institutions of Moscow and the Moscow region are joining in the campaign. More than 1,500 children and adults will contribute to beautifying the Paschal eggs for the “Basket of Kindness,” for which the foundation has already received a van full of eggs from the X5 Retail Group consisting of several grocery chains which collect donated eggs and other food from customers throughout the country, which is then distributed to the needy.
“Pascha is a wonderful feast, around which many people in our country unite. So for Pascha we decided not to ask but to offer groceries from our basket to all desiring it. And not just groceries, but the main symbol of the feast—Paschal eggs,” said foundation head Vic Crisco.
Every little artist helping to put the basket together will also receive a Paschal egg as a sign of their involvement in the occasion.
The “Rus’” foundation has been donating food to the socially vulnerable throughout Russia since 2012. In 2015, the foundation distributed five million pounds of goods and necessities.
