Representatives of the radical Right Sector organization and the self-proclaimed Kiev Patriarchate have beaten Orthodox believers in the village of Ptichya, in the Rovno Region of Ukraine on Friday.
They tried to seize the local church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin, which belongs to the community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, the UOC press service reports.
The criminals beat the believers with clubs and steel rods, threw firecrackers and "Molotov cocktails" at them, used pepper spray and threatened to capture many more churches in the region.
"The UOC religious community has all the necessary documents and decisions of three courts that confirmed their right to own the church," the message reads.
The police arrived to the site of the conflict, but "they sided with the raiders," the press service notes.
Earlier, the schismatics captured dozens of UOC churches, mostly in western Ukraine.
