Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia is concerned with alcohol advertisements and the degree of new narcotics trading.
"The spreading of drug and alcohol abuse in our society is a great tragedy for many families. Unfortunately, alcohol advertisement still happens in the media. There are attempts to lobby for its extension, explained by the concern for increasing magazine and newspaper circulation," the patriarch said on Friday at the 4th Christmas Parliamentary meetings at the Federation Council.
He called for legislative initiatives aimed at increased restrictions or even a full ban on advterisements of products detrimental to human health.
"The sale of various new drugs is growing in threatening scales. A great number of young people using smoking blends or spices get used to them and then start using drugs and are subjected to the most severe addiction," the primate said.
He is convinced that this situation should be settled both on a legislative and law enforcement level.
According to the primate, not only the health of the nation, but also "the very existence of our people and state" depends upon this question.
