Residents of the village of Meret in the Suzun region have become witnesses to something amazing. The faces on several icons in a local church have altered themselves, which was not the work of restorers, according to the clergy, reports Vn.ru.
Fr. Vladimir, rector of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, explains: “The images renewed themselves. The archangels are showing through. The icon was dark and it was hard to see the face. But after some time the faces of the archangels appeared and the icon itself is somewhat renewed.”
According to the local priest, with every day the faded paint becomes brighter and the faces of the saints appear more distinctly. Many of these icons returned to the church after many, many years. In Soviet times the locals hid them in attics and crawl spaces. The church was first turned into a club, then a bar which later burned down. The new church was built in the 90s. Miracles began from that time, the local residents said.
“It happens not because people are good or bad. It’s needed for strengthening the faith, not only of the laity, but of priests too, unfortunately, because we’re running in circles, spinning around, and we don’t see any results. Here another icon was also renewed—St. Nicholas the Wonderworker,” explained Fr. Vladimir.
There is one other holy object in the Meret church. In the summer of 2002, the Golgotha Cross from the old church was found in the attic of one of the homes. According to the recollection of the older residents, the cross is already more than 120 years old. Apparently, after closing the church the cross was taken and hidden by the parishioners. The village residents say that the most important thing is that faith be revived in the people again.
The people of Meret are sure that this will not be the final miracle in their church.
