Moscow, October 24, 2016
Today, October 11/24, 2016, the commemoration of the Synaxis of the Optina Elders, marks one year of the episcopal service of Bishop Tikhon (Shevkunov) of Yegoryevsk.
His Grace Tikhon, vicar to Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and abbot of Moscow’s Sretensky Stavropegial Monastery, was congratulated following the morning Divine Liturgy by the Sretensky monastic, seminary, and parish communities.
Last year Abbot Tikhon was elected as bishop of Yegoryevsk on October 22 and consecrated to the episcopate at the Shamordino Hermitage of Our Lady of Kazan, founded by St. Ambrose of Optina in 1884, on October 24. The Divine Liturgy and consecration were celebrated by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, with several other bishops concelebrating.
Please join us in congratulating His Grace Bishop Tikhon, and prayerfully wishing him many years of service to the Church, that he might, in the words of His Holiness delivered to Bishop Tikhon on the day of his consecration one year ago, “Strive to use all [his] talents and abilities for the benefit of Holy Orthodoxy, that the Lord Who today has placed [him] on His candle stand would not deprive [him] of His grace-filled help and support.”
